Prophylaxis & Dental Hygiene
The optimal protection for your teeth
Beautiful teeth are something you can and should show when you smile. Prophylaxis contributes to the preservation of teeth and ensures that the chewing tools remain healthy and attractive for as long as possible. How? By protecting against periodontal disease and other oral conditions. Your dental care is a task that accompanies you throughout your life – but what you can do in addition, you can learn here.
What IS prophylaxis exactly?
Prophylaxis is the preventive measure to avoid tooth decay, caries or other diseases. Corresponding measures in dentistry are also called “dental hygiene”. It is divided into three different types of prevention: primary, secondary and tertiary prophylaxis.
The maintenance of the healthy condition of your teeth is the primary prevention. This is represented by preventive examinations at the dentist. Secondary prevention is concerned with diseases that occur (early detection), while tertiary prevention is concerned with preventing disease recurrence.
This concerns chronic diseases – first of all: periodontitis (periodontosis). In addition to professional cleaning of the tooth pockets, this involves professional dental cleaning.
